Wash in 5’ Challenge : when a selfie permits to save water and redistribute it

04/08/2017

Jules et Maryne, founders of the blog www.explorelemonde.com, launched the “Solidarity Challenge of the Year”. They give a spotlight to the Kynarou association which works in southern India, Burkina Faso and Madagascar to promote the access to drinking water and sanitation and also in France to raise awareness to an environmental education.

The "Wash in 5’ Challenge" consists in taking a shower of less than 5 minutes, posting a selfie (or photo of you making a “Give me 5”) on the Wash in 5’ Challenge Facebook page. Every 125 photos received (= 5000L of water saved), a water filter is installed in a school. Around 10 filters have been installed and more 300 schoolchildren have access to drinking water. Since 2004, the number of beneficiaries of the projects reached 100,000 people.

But today, after 1 year of activities, even if the association has potential funders, the photos are lacking to launch the installation of a collective filtration system for 700 people. In order to revitalize the game, the bloggers found a solution ... From 21 July to 11 August, all the participants in the "Wash In 5 'Challenge" will be in competition to win a 10-day trip to India for 2 people with them, next October. A random draw will select 50 finalists who will have a week to prepare a short video and introduce their arguments, their worth.

This is a totally solidarity competition, the only leitmotif is to help the association in its actions in India! Several personalities have well understood this project and have agreed to play the game and support the 'Wash in 5' Challenge": journalists, animators, actors, sportsmen ...
