More than twenty years after the break-up of the Soviet Union, the Republic of Moldova is still facing considerable challenges and remains one of the poorest countries in Europe.
After more than 13 years of contribution to the development of innovative decentralized water supply and sanitation models and in order to specify its new Cooperation Strategy for Moldova 2014/17, SDC selected IOWater for analysing the situation and presenting recommendations in order to support the country for developing an integrated water resource management approach as well as its national Water information System.

Description of services provided by IOW: 

In-depth analysis of the situation and presentation of recommendation of actions aiming to:
* Develop a sound water information management system that provides complete and reliable data anchored to the e-governance platform,
* Promote an integrated water resource management approach according to the provisions of the new water law;
* Organize capacity building and training aimed at implementation of a newly adjusted regulatory framework on water supply and sanitation.
A first mission was realized between the 14 and the 20 September 2014, by a group 4 experts led by IOWater (2 experts from IOWater for SDC and 2 Austrian experts on the water and sanitation sector) in order to analyze the situation, identify the priority needs and the concrete actions that could be implemented in the coming years with the SDC and ADA support on these 3 topics
A first global report was presented and discussed during a national workshop on 22 October 2014 in Chisinau.
