Web-conference: protection of aquatic environments, from ecological damage to ecological harm - Friday 18 May at 10h00

04/05/2018

The International Office for Water (IOWater) organizes with the support of the French Biodiversity Agency (AFB) a web-conference on Friday 18 May at 10h00.

Despite a developed legal arsenal, taking into account the ecological damage caused to aquatic and other natural environments often suffers from difficult interaction between the various actors (environmental inspectors, managers of natural areas, civil society, magistrates, etc.), with the consequence that the law is less effective.

The AFB has addressed this problem by launching research and development work at the interface between the human and social sciences and the life and earth sciences. This led to the publication in 2017 of a volume in the series Comprendre pour agir: From ecological damage to ecological damage, how does society take into account and repair the damage caused to water and aquatic environments?

Based on this work, this web-conference will allow you to understand the chain of environmental litigation, to identify the actors involved, to measure the progress already made in favour of a greater effectiveness of the law but also the road that remains to be travelled for a better protection of aquatic environments and other natural environments.

With the intervention of Delphine Loupsans, Legal and governance officer - Research, expertise and skills development Department - Agence française pour la biodiversité

And animated by Maxime Fouillet , Scientific mediator - Data enhancing Department- International Office for Water
