Opening of the new website
of the International Network of Basin Organizations
for better water management over the world
www.inbo-news.org

The International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) was founded in 1994 to help in the establishment and strengthening of basin organizations around the world, based on the exchange of experiences among its members. It currently has 192 Member-Organizations or Observers in 88 countries, including managers of coastal, national or transboundary basins of rivers, lakes or aquifers.

Now more than ever, basin management is needed to cope with the numerous pressures on freshwater resources, which are increasing in all countries and on all continents, further aggravated by the effect of climate change.

It is important to gather and analyze the successful achievements that sometimes have existed for more than fifty years, and to ensure their wide dissemination to international, national or local decision-makers, water users of all economic sectors, organizations of general interest and more broadly to all inhabitants, by supporting their initiatives, in order to move towards better water management before the encountered problems worsen.

The Network’s purpose is to support these initiatives and the new INBO website has a lot of useful reference information.

It is available in the four official languages of the Network, French, English, Spanish and Russian and has been developed by our specialized staff in Responsive Design format for easy viewing on PCs, tablets and i-Phones.

INBO website is a showcase of basin management in the world: in addition to the statutory information of the Network, its actions and those of its Members, It informs about the activity of international events on water and climate and their conclusions, incentive projects for new approaches and interesting publications on the topic, especially on all issues of institutional organization.

It especially focuses on the current priorities of inland freshwater management, i.e. improving knowledge of resources and impacts of climate change, monitoring, decision support, capacity building, governance, funding of innovative projects, policy evaluation, the use of nature-based solutions or the follow-up of the “Paris Pact for Water Adaptation to Climate Change” initiated by INBO and UNECE at COP21 in Paris in 2015 and now gathering 361 signatory organizations from all over the world.

Of course, it is continuously enriched by the conclusions of major world events such as the United Nations conferences (COP Climate, Sustainable Development Goals, Water Conventions...), the OECD Water Governance Initiative, High Level Panels, and World Summits, such as those in Budapest and Rome, the World Water Forums, etc., to which INBO is officially associated.

Web users will find, in a form that is easy to read online or to download, all the issues of "INBO Newsletter", since the creation of the Network, as well as the entire collection of "Handbooks on Basin Management" published since 2006 by the Network and its partners, as well as their translations, as appropriate, into French, English, Spanish, Arabic, Russian or Chinese ..., Including the last two publications on water information systems and participation in Basin Committees, which are presented on the occasion of the World Water Forum, starting March 19th 2018 in Brasilia.

The website also gives easy access to selected sites of its partners or projects concerning basin management in the world, as well as the activities of "INBO Regional Networks", gradually created on all continents to facilitate direct exchanges. between organizations of the same geographical areas.
