Species, ecosystems, ecological continuity... the June 2018 "Water and Biodiversity" letter from IOWater has been published!
Since 2014, the International Office for Water (IOWater), with the financial support of the French Biodiversity Agency (AFB), has been carrying out a continuous and dynamic informational monitoring of information relating to aquatic biodiversity in France and throughout the world. The result of this monitoring is published in a monthly newsletter, the "Water and Biodiversity" newsletter, accessible free of charge on the site and by e-mail subscription.
The June 2018 edition of this letter has just been published. In particular:
- Knowledge of species and ecosystems:
- Analysis of trends in fish communities in major French rivers and rivers;
- Study of eel, salmon, sea trout communities and their migratory flows;
- Homogenization of regional biodiversity data in France and mapping them to facilitate their use and readability.
- Preservation and restoration of the ecological continuity of rivers:
- Actions and research at the service of rivers: functioning, evolution, management policy, or engineering;
- Aquatic habitats such as rivers are levers of growth: investment in solutions based on Nature, inventory of scientific knowledge on the interrelationships between the state of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning and their economic and socio-cultural services on the ground.
Finally, there is also the inclusion of climate and biodiversity in Article 1 of the Constitution: the amendment adopted in the Law Committee will be submitted to the Assembly from 10 July.
