PALESTINE - Choice and design of waste water treatment plants

Pays:
Territoire palestinien
Name of client/Beneficiary:
HAMAP ONG
Start Date :
September, 2013
Completion Date :
November, 2013
Funding organisation:
HAMAP ONG
Description of the project:

The aims of PWA are:

-To enhance PWA\PMU capacity building to select the proper WWTP technology from one hand and to select the feasible design criteria either for the collection network or WWTP with different size and technology.

- To facilitate and to enhance the capacity of the service provider staff how to deal with the new sewage projects.

The International Office for Water have realised a training session « Choice and design of waste water treatment plants »

Objective

What are main processes of waste water treatment plants for urban waste waters

How are working main treatment processes of waste water treatment plants for urban waste waters

Main design ratios of these processes

Choice criteria of these processes

Skills to be developed during the first session

Presentation of main urban waste water characteristics

Preliminary treatments : screening, sand and greases removal, sieving

Primary settling

Principle of biological treatment for the removal of organic matter and nitrogen

Activated sludge process : aeration and interests of sensors (oxymeter, EhN meter), mixing technologies, recirculation, extraction, gas remover, secondary settling technologies

Main parameters of operation costs : energy (kW/kg BOD5 …), …

Visit of a waste water treatment plants (Al Bireh)

Skills to be developed during the second session

Membrane biological reactor (MBR), Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR), Moving biological bed reactor (MBBR) , Trickling filters, Rotating biological contactors (RBC), Sand filters planted with reeds (constructed wetlands)

Sludge characterisation and Sludge becoming : landfill, reuse in agriculture, incineration

Sludge treatment technologies : thickening (static and dynamic), stabilisation (liming, anaerobic digestion), dewatering (wire belt press, centrifugation, filter press, drying beds)

Main parameters of operation costs : energy (kW/m3, kW/kg BOD5 …), …

Visit of 2 waste water treatment plants (Ramallah, Taibe)
